I also do not make money in the "Professional Left". I'm a database programmer. But I am still disappointed and constantly underwhelmed by this administration.
And I also still think, from a purely political perspective, that unless you think your comments will win some previously unattainable cache of votes for your president or your party, then it was abjectly stupid.
This is a democracy Robert. If the voters do not favor you and you lose elections, it isn't the fault of the voters. It's your fault. It is the job of any aspiring politician, whether aspiring for the first time or for reelection, to motivate citizens to cast their votes for them. It is not the job of the voters to cast those votes for your candidate regardless of how they feel about him.
I don't know what voters you think you were wooing, but it wasn't me. Perhaps you should stop feeling so entitled to be in the White House, and start remembering that you're there because the American people put you there, and the American people can also get rid of you.
Stop blaming us for your own shortcomings.
........
And for the commenters (if there are any)... I do not owe the Democratic party my vote. I do not owe President Obama my vote. I am not betraying anyone if I do not give them my vote; on the contrary, if I give them my vote when I don't feel like it, I am betraying myself.
Now, I'm not saying how I will vote in any election by saying that, but I'm reminding you of the same thing. It isn't the job of the voters to support a candidate, it's the job of the candidate to woo the voters.
What Robert Gibbs said (and what a lot of commenters I see on this sight say) betrays that he takes a lot of voters for granted. That's not an attitude that wins elections.
